    Hell yeah! Hell no!

    My first tournament

Well Guys, I had my first Tae kwon do tournament on the 23rd.
I know, its TKD, and WTF, so point sparring.
I was put with 2 year yellow belt, for competing for gold in my division (we were the only low belts in our catagory)(I only fought him)
Anyways, some things I realize not to do the night before...
    Don't drink.
If you have asthma, don't hang around with smokers.
get more than 6 hours of sleep.
So I go in this fight half awake.
    I take the offensive.
I totally kicked him around in the first match.
But I was very tired by the time the break happened(stupid asthma)
anyways I try and calm down and get going.
    I start second match.
I try and take the offensive as best as I can, I manage to get him into a corner and start punching him back.
I do decent, but then he gets back a bit and I run into a pushkick.
I get knocked on my ass.
So the ref gets in between us, I stand up, we go I get him back to the other side of the ring with my kicks planting some decent kicks on his chest.
I get him in the corner...
Stupid asthma, he takes the offensive, I'm like walking like a zombie here, he starts kicking me, but I block his kicks (with my wrist..Stupid of me).
So I'm just blocking these kicks going back.
then I think the match ends.
The judges scored pretty retarded though.
but in the end it was 2-2.(Even though later I watched the video of my fight, and I counted WAY more points.)
But the Judges decided I was the winner.
I took the offensive while the other guy danced around.
Well I'm happy I got gold for my first tournament.
I got another one coming up mid november.
Hopefully i'll have good health for then and do much better.(even though I won anyways)
But I'd like to thank all you guys here for inspiring me to actually kick hard instead of just fast, for REAL fighting, and helping me get out there and train alot harder.
If ya guys don't want it here, just move it to general BS or whatever.

    Congrats.
BTW, point sparring gives you more points faster but there's no penalty for going full-contact either.

So, there is no penalty in counter punching or throwing a hard thai-style kick to the thigh?

There are only penalties if it is a thai-style kick.

If it is a non-thai-style kick to the thigh, you get extra points.

I figured, cuz only the thai style kick to the thigh does damage.

Point sparring means that their is a break after every successful hit, right?

No. Well, yes, but I wouldn't call WTF sparring point sparring. You see, it is point sparring in the sense that you score a point for every legal tech that lands with force, as opposed to scoring like a boxing round. However, it is also continuous, full contact and you can win by KO.

Congrats on your first tourny. Although TKD, even the rough stuff, isnt near as brutal as most of the stuff the guys around here do, it can still be tough. I always seem to get beat up pretty good, anyways :) peace
