AFTER you get professional advice and training on how to properly use the Heavy bag, I would suggest some focus mitt work too ( find a partner you slacker).
Also, the intensity of your bag workout is very important, the more intense ( faster punching, more footwork, more body behind the strikes), the quicker you will hit the CARDIO burn out wall, way before your arms get "tired".
Now is you wanna work on "muscular endurance", you have to hit on a more moderate pace, not as intense, and puch for LONGER periods of time, so that the lactic acid build up occurs before your cardio-vascular endurnace "gives out".

I agree with Omar, most of the power from the punches (well, not the jab of course) but most of the other punches come off of the hips/back. The arm is just there to corkscrew the punch into the target and snap it back.
However that's just the way I learned it.

What are you talking about? Karate taught me to 'corkscrew' *cough cough* my hand until it was horizontal. Boxing is like.... elbow facing the sky corkscrew, its craaaaaaazy.
*grumble grumble* stupid karate....stupid muscle memory.... *grumble*.
