    They're not that rare (in the southwest). The mutation came about naturally through evolution(AFAIK)

    You always see the mounted heads of them at sporting goods stores as gag gifts, those aren't the real ones, just fake ones.

    From what I understand, due to the rarity you aren't able to hunt or trap them. I'm not much of a hunter though.

    The "horns"? I assume they must be some kind of defense mechanism against predation, but I don't really know.

    They might not be physically useful. It could be some kind of mimicry. (They are there to intimidate, rather than poke things)
