    Mount Question

I was taught this weekend by a Bjj purple belt when I have secured mount to hook (under my opponents ass) my feet together and drive my hips down so i don't need to use my hands to keep my balance. Does anyone else do this? I found it to be really akward but maybe this was just because i wasn't use to it. So any advice on how to use this "mount" to it's best ability, tips on how to attack and defend this variation of the mount better?

    thnx

You mean grapevining, yes? Your feet shouldn't be under his ass, you should be able to slide your feet back, your hips roughyl above his, and you can straighten/stretch out their legs, like a forced split, should make them feel terrible. You should be able to sort of rest on top of them, stretch your arms out kind of super man style, put them a little to either side to balance as he squrims left or right, but mostly you should be relaxing and enjoying the ride.

    Grapevining is hard to describe...

    Hrmmmm.

What KF is talking about is pretty much humping.

You get your feet under your opponent's thigh/butt and splay your knees out.

You then push your hips into their lower abdomen, akin to humping move, yes it's mas.

With all your weight now on their belly, you can use your hands to choke, punch, whatever.

I get alot of taps from ppl when I do this, but i weigh more than the average bear.

    :adios:

One point to remember is that you also need to be able to quickly transition to other positions and you may need to use your feet to brace against various escapes. If you lock your feet under their ass you may find yourself in the guard especially if your smaller than your opponent.

Ah, yeah, I hate doing that, trapping the feet beneath their ass is begging for a trap sweep.

yeah i found i lost the mount alot faster than a normally do, I was unsure to whether or not it was the feet hooking thing or my opponent's skill.

Well, like anything else it is an option. I tend to do it sometimes when peole are in certain postions and not do it in others. Once you get a better feel for grappling you'll find yourself constantly making minute adjustments without even being aware of it. So in essence it was his skill, your lack of training in this postion and the feet hooking. Keep training!

Keep hands wide, barely touching the ground.

Rener also taught me to use my head and hook hard on the leg that is on top of the upa, ie, if you are getting swept to your right, hook hard with your left, use your head to brace the roll.
