    other sports

    Do any of you guys do any other sports besides martial artis training (I'm calling it a sport for the simple sake that it is an atheltic activity of some kind - whatever it ultimate purpose or application). Aside from the fact that there are only so many hours in the day to train/practice, have you noticed if your MA training has helped or hindered you in that other sport you play?

    For me I think my training has helped with my touch football playing, I seem to be slightly less tacklable than I was before I trained. But it hasn't helped my basketball an inch - still can't dunk :)

    i been playing tennis for about 10 yrs. really helps with the endurance. added hip strength is a plus.

    errr i meant tennis helps MA with endurance but MA gave added hip strength to my ground strokes

    Seein that I'm still in a cast from breaking a foot in half, that was fractured several times due to "another sport", I'm not entirely sure.

    I've not even started MA yet, truth be told. 11 more days in my cast, and then I have several appointments for free classes starting the day after I get the bloody thing off. I'm betting that my vaulting experience will help my MA training, though, because of the flexibility, versatility, strength and ignorance of pain required to be at the shiznit level I was at.

    just the physical aspectsx of training, whether ma or sport should be cross productive.
    Other things I've regularly gotten out of ma specific training that has helped with my sports?
    eye-hand coordination, hand speed, spacial awareness, intuition, less injuries, etc.

    Soccer is also one of my passions in life.
    Though I don't really do it in sparring, the flying side kick helps with slide tackles.
    I had scary reach.

    As well as I guess....pain tolerance? I played keeper this past season, first game in I got slide tackled cleats up into my stomach. And another game I took a couple tackles and hard collisions on my leg. See pic! :D

    Also arm speed helped a bit.
