    Warm-Up/Stretching - 40mins
    Break - 5mins
Practice Moves (not sure proper terminology - kicks and what not) - 40mins
    Break - 5mins
Practice Forms (I was tought the beginning of the Praying Mantis) - 30mins

After this there is 30 mins for students to self practice.

That's a long stretch. 15 minutes is a long stretch.

What's the name of the Mantis form? What system is it from?

That sounds awfully singular. There is a LOT of good CMA in van.

No point to this but I thought the irony here in his bio was kind of funny. I wonder how it shapes a gusy outlook to have had these 2 experiences:

1964 .... Because of his bourgeois family background, the government sent him to a remote poverty stricken village to teach high school students....
And then 10 years later in the same country under the same government:

1974 Appointed by the government as an official professional Wushu coach.
This guy has GOT to have a sense of humor about things.

I never thought to ask...In fact I didnt even know there were different forms of it...The guy that tought it just said it was praying mantis. And not sure about system either...

I'm not well-versed in knowledge of CMA, or in MA for that matter. (only had a year of Mcdojo TKD when I was 10yrs old)

So I did goto the Saturday class today, Wushu was from 4:00-5:30 and Sanshou was from 5:30-6:30

The Wushu still didnt really appeal to me. Im sure it's useful and is well worth learning for some ppl, but I just feel it doesnt suit me.........and Martial arts is very individualistic is it not? What works one me may not work for you and vice versa...

    HOWEVER, the Sanshou......Wow!

    About the class:
The teacher (not Liang Shouyu, his name was Aaron - sp?) was straight and to the point; he meant business. He brought a group of us for more advanced Sanshou and before we started he straightup said, if we couldnt handle it or were slacking he'd send us back to do drills with the other group. After the class I briefly talked to him, he said he used to do MMA, but didnt really like it - basically for him it lacked purpose, a deeper meaning. "Those guys just train to fight." He added that there Sanshou guys that do that to, but it's not for him...

The class was focussed a lot on punching (I guess they've been doing a lot of falling and throws and stuff - but he thought they needed work on punching). We started with some warm up - some footwork and shadowboxing. Then we did some drills with partners - basically keeping your hands up as one person punches, the other blocks. From there the class was split into 2 groups; one group continued drills, the other (my group) went over for an advanced class as he put it.

We went through the drill again, only adding a takedown into this time. Then we got on some gloves and sparred with the teacher and his assistant, one at a time. (just punching, he didnt want us full out sparring each other til we learned the basics, and a lot of guys werent covering their head, plus there were a few first-timers to the class like myself) After this, the groups rejoined and we did some conditioning: cardio, pushups, situps, and class commenced.

I thought the Sanshou was great. The teacher knew exactly what he was doing, and didnt wanna have to "babysit a bunch of kids" (part of the class he didnt take to spar). I'll more than likely join - prolly in January (assuming it doesnt snow - cuz I cant borrow the car in snow and I really really dont want to walk 8 or 10 blocks however long it is in that area of town. - That's has got to be the single worst area in Vancouver, and even just outside the place I was approached more that 3 times for drugs and/or money!!!) - I DJ Friday and Saturdays in December
