    Hell yeah! Hell no!

    Heard it 'bout the grapevine

    So, grapevining in the mount.

    Kicks arse.

But I was warned against using it in a judo club I've just started going to. Now at my old club we used it all the time but I was never actually taught it so I was wondering....

Is it actually illegal in judo or is this just a thing one of the black belts has?

I'm going to assume you've already read the IJF rules. I haven't read'em in a while, but I'm going to say **** WHAT THEY TELL YOU, READ THE RULES.

It's when you wrap your legs around your opponent's while in the mount, like a vine entangling his legs, hence, grapevine.

Ok, that was pretty funny, but seriously, Judo rules are misinterpreted a lot I think.

Me "I was kicked in the head by the guys sparring next to me."

Eduardo "Ino what happened but i didnt say you could stop."

Me "Um.. I guess I keep going."

Eduardo "You dont stop until i say stop, you dont get tired until i say your tired, keep going."

I do it almost everytime in the mount when we're "working the clock" or drilling our pins. I find it much easier to get kuzure tate shiho gatame and the shoulder choke when I do it.

Could someone post a picture? The closest grapevine-like thing I can think of couldn't double as a submission. Can't find it on google either.

Piz, you were doing really well there for a while. Don't start back down that slippery slope.

my understanding: when you're in mount, wrap your legs around your opponents legs and stretch them out so that your knees are on the floor outside of your opponents legs but your feet should be sticking sole up on the inside of your opponents legs -- maybe I'm wrong, but I thought that this is what we were talking about.
