Okay, I agree that Vanderlai hasn't had too many hard recent fights (although I think his fight vs. Dan Henderson was a good indicator of how tough he is), but he really goes after people. Never a dull moment with Silva in the ring.
"I had once talked to Billy Conn, the boxer, about professionals versus amateurs - specifically street fighters. One had always heard rumors of champions being taken out by back-alley fighters. Conn was scornful. "Aw, it's like hitting a girl," he said. "They're nothing."

No doubt that Yoshida is the new kid on the block, and for me the guy to beat. Yoshida vs Silva would be outstanding. The reason Judo people get pissed off about the Gracie's is cause they ripped off all the Judo techniques and claimed them as their own invention. Everybody in the Judo world know's Helio was taught Judo by a Japanese immigrant and just changed the name in order to make money.
Almost no one in the BJJ world is aware of this. They've bought into the propaganda hook, line, and sinker. It always amazes me when a guy who's been studying BJJ for 2 or 3 years walks into our Judo Dojo, and when he sees someone doing an arm bar pr triangle choke says, "Oh, you guys practice brazalian jujutsu here!",like BJJ invented these techniques and us Judo guys are trying to learn Gracie stuff. We were doing it for years before the Gracies appeared on the scene and will be doing it for years after they disappear. We just never made such a big deal about it. That's why everyone gets so heated over the rivalery. -

It's not the techniques. It's an entire strategic outlook. Thanks for the post Ghosty. Welcome to the board.
**The most miraculous power that can verifiably be attributed to "chi" is its ability to be all things to virtually all people, depending on what version of the superstition they are attempting to defend at any given moment.**Normally, I'd say I was grappling, but I was taking down and mounting people, and JFS has kindly informed us that takedowns and being mounted are neither grappling nor anti grappling, so I'm not sure what the **** I was doing. Maybe schroedinger's sparring, where it's neither grappling nor anti-grappling until somoene observes it and collapses the waveform, and then I RNC a cat to death.----fatherdog -
