Start them young!
Competitive kickboxing for children! At what age do other schools allow kids to go out there and mix it up?
... I have this mental image of a kid hitting another in the face with the tip of his toes and the kid sitting down and crying for his mom. It's a disturbing image to associate with any art other then tkd.
These same kids are competing in NAGA as well.
NAGA - North American Grappling ASSIMULATEDBYTHEBORG!!!
Wow, http://www.juniorfighters.com/ has nothing on it....
Does anyone remember the vid of the kids fighting MT rules?
Not that they can do that much damage at that age/weight...
I don't think I'd pay to watch CHILDREN fight though....
yeah i saw a "doco" (and i use that word loosely) called the deadly arts or something, where this old lady goes to thailand to learn muay thai. she goes and watches some kids who are like 7 years old have a fight in the markets. full thai rules. weird ****, dont see why the **** you would want to watch it because it was boring as hell (poor technique, they arent big enough to hurt each other, and they obviously didnt want to)
then she fucked off and played with swords and **** for the rest of the program. gay bitch.
We let the kids go at it MMA style under heavy supervision at 7-8, all subs with limited ground striking, light open palm GnP. They love it, the parents get into it too.
I started MA at 8, but contact (hard) sparring, I only got into after 13 ( boxing), and in kyokushin ( my dojo), we did contact sparring, but only did full contact after I was 16 ( though I had been boxing since I was 13, my instructor did not think full contact bare knuckle was a good idea before 16).
Today at Judo, a kid in the juniors class before me started crying after his slightly older brother threw him.
I don't think kids should be fighting in full contact fighting until they are like 15/16. I don't know why the parents would wanna see there kid fighting at that age anyway.
Learning MA however is a great thing to start young, it teaches kids disipline and of course, self defence.
