Apparently, The Gracies have always been that way ...
I don't recall this link getting posted before, but it shows an interesting parallel to the modern hostilities between Judo and BJJ.
Also, isn't a little weird that the Gracies would be this vehmenently anti-Japanaese (according tp the author of the letter) when the art was intially developed with a Japanese instructor?Monkey Ninjas! Attack!

brazilian are good at three things:
after that comes volleyball, women's surfing, and bikinis (okay, brazilian bikinis are #1). judo is waaay down the list . . . bjj doesn't have throws, so they throw themselves, and diss judo. that's not hostile, just self-serving.

I don't know if any of that is true, but that's how I heard it. Someone more knowledgable would do well to pop in and set the record straight.
