i hope this isnt too late because i just registered but...
in TKD sparring, the idea isnt to KILL your partner. the idea is to score points. have any of you ever fought in a TKD match before that depends on kicking 90% of the time? if that equipment was not there, there fighters would be out of the math a minuet into the first round with broken ribs and so forth. same with the hands. hands are kept down because they take a beating. this isnt K1 folks, these athletes use equipment to keep them in the match and to keep their careers going. how long does a k1 fighter last? 2-3 years before he's all beat up. thats not the point of taekwondo sparring. its a philosophy.

That's part of the problem. The idea of sparring should be to simulate a fight. It needs to be done in such a way that people can remain safe from injury for further training, but the purpose should still be to safely simulate a fight.

That's absurd. Kickboxers hit each other full power without all that gear and don't end up with broken ribs in the first minute. :rolleyes:

Yes. Most of these guys wouldnt last a minute in a K1 fight.

Heh. And, you know, I kind of started this thread to defend Olympic TKD a bit, but TKDCritic just busted out some of the worst BS claims of "traditional" arts. Without protective gear they'd be breaking ribs with every kick, dude!!! T3H DEADLY!!!
