Offense from the guard position...hmmm. I dunno to me it sounds like if you want to get offensive advantage, you might wanna get out of the guard (which sounds like a defensive position). But hell what do i know, i'm no ground fighter.

That is key here. Learn yourself some grappling. Every night this week I have been controlling and submitting heavier opponents from my guard.

The guard is ALL about attacking, whether it be with sweeps or submissions. If you're defensive then you're reacting to him. You want to push his buttons so he has to react to you or he'll end up passing your guard. If the guy can't get his base, or posture, is constantly in a bad position, or is constantly defending sweeps and submissions then he can't pass your guard.

Funk Master GG: YOU ARE NO MATCH FOR MY CHI.

That said, I actually was able to do a crooked guard, I think. I just kept climbing my guard until I was able to get my right leg over their left shoulder, while they still had both arms inside. I was automatically threatening an armbar on them from the position, and just had to push their left arm out to go for triangle. It's just subtly different than the "ain't this just the beginning of the triangle" position.

Brrtz! Gringo or anyone else, do you have advice on the rubber guard?

All I can find our these two triangle setups by Mr. Bravo:

    http://www.grapplearts.com/Rubber-Guard-Setup-1.htm
    http://www.grapplearts.com/Rubber-Guard-Setup-2.htm

And this guillotine from the rubber guard by a Sherdogger:

Pictures would be nice, because I'm still not really sure what the rubber guard consists of, other than "ITL BOLW MY FCKN MIDN".

    Aesopian,

Man, I'm the wrong person to ask for advice on this...I'm just tall and flexible so when people started talking about the rubber guard, I looked at teh same stuff you did and I think I've seen a short vid here or there.

The main thing I've seen is even if people have heard about the rubber guard, they don't expect to be in someones guard and then have a leg come over their shoulder or neck.

Personally, my rubber guard triangle sucks monkey nuts, I get more people with either the omaplata by slowly working my leg up their back while screwing around with their arms and then spinning into the plata or if someone keeps their head up a little by bringing my leg over their shoulder and under their neck and then choke them against me shin (gogoplata?).

I'm probably a terrible person to ask for advice just because I learned submissions from Vale Tudo guys who were mostly GNP'ers and every now and then run into people who have helped me get my tech correct. Actually, I am very good at one thing...TAPPING...I think I have a black belt.

Two minor developments in my guard game.
Saturday I finally got 2 triangles from guard!
I put my head on the floor to base and protect myself during a pass. (i never really do that and consider it "advanced")

Als you bitches need to Rep me for starting possibly the most usefull thread in the techniques section! ;)
