Jiu-jitsu books

I'm thinking about buying a book on japanesse jiu-jitsu and was wondering if anyone has read it.

I don't want to learn JJ from a book or anything, I'm alread taking it, but I'm very curious about the history and the old school philosophy and some of the older techniques.

I'm also curious about "Ultimate Jujutsu: Principles and Practices"

Has anyone read either of these books? any recomendations? And don't come on and tell me to get both of them!! I'm a poor college student so that's not really an option!

Try some BJJ books like: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Theory and Tehnique "Renzo & Royler Gracie".

Or Rigan Machado's book. With Gene Lebells "Grappling world"

IMNSHO the BEST modern book on Nihon Jujutsu is

"YAWARA" by Jun Osano (aka Zuretsu JJ 'Illustrated Jujutsu')
it is a bilingual book (Japanese and Engilisn) and the techniques are shown pretty well.

I read Ultimate Jujutsu over the Christmas break --my sensei gave me a copy for Christmas. I was surprised at how in-depth in went. And they didn't do the same tired old wristlocks and leg sweeps --the author showed a lot of stuff (strikes, kicks, locks and takedowns) I've never seen before.

If this is the same guy I'm thinking of, I think he used to write for the martial arts magazines all the time.

Good tip, that Ultimate Jujutsu looks interesting. I may check it out, I've always been interested to learn more about JJJ but it's hard to find anyone who teaches it.
