    Originator of Your Art

Who is the originator of your art, as in who created/invented/revived it? And what is your art?

Mine is Shootfighting (other names are Catch Wrestling, Puroresu, Shooto, Pancrase, etc) and I credit Akira Maeda with reviving it in the the early 80s, it had faded away more than 30 years earlier as a legitimate method of fighting.

Muay Thai is extremely old; as far as I've read, no one knows who first formalized it. The person who popularized it in North America during the 20th century was Surachai Surisute, a.k.a. Ajarn Chai.

Kajukenbo, created by five seperate people, but in the end taught and spread by Adriano D. Emperado. His skill in full contact fighting, and producing effective fighters, was unmatched. Now that he doesn't teach, many people destroy what he started by teaching in McDojo fashion, however some schools still remain.

I've been trying to figure this out. I can't decide between Mestre Pastinha and Mestre Bimba who were both instrumental in the popularization of capoeira. But in antagonistic and complimentary ways.

So, Mark, would you say your style is similar to American Kenpo? I ask because I did a little of that before I started doing Shootfighting.

My training is mainly focused around BJJ, everyone here knows the history behind that. But then other arts and techniques are used for a more well rounded MMA skillset, but I don't know enough about wrestling, Judo, Muy Thai, etc, to really name names.

    Jishin ryu/do Jiu-jitsu - Chris Bissett
If you recognise that name, then I don't need to say anything more.
I've personally never met the guy, but the older students and sensei's have some very, interesting, stories about him.
