"If you see a guy just pop out of nowhere, just stick your elbow there." *proceeds to hit air, then move the opponent closer*.

The first two were pathetic, the last one didn't look bad though.

In almost 20 years of martial arts training, from seminars with Dan Inosanto, Larry Hartsell, Wally Jay, Remy Presas, Wagney Fabiano and Jean Yves Theriault, I learned more from the seminars i have taken with Carl on how to make what you know work.

I hope he should you something more than what was in the video because, as military H2H goes, that was pretty weak.

Apostol summed it up pretty well.

I thought the quy in the second video was pretty lame when he tried to grab the instructor through the elbow. How about ducking under the elbow and getting body control? Still, it was a defense against someone surprising you. A quick elbow to the face ain't that bad.

Aside from the shin kicking, I sort of liked the last vid. A nice elbow to the head, two throws, and a neck crank / side guillitine. I can see that working.

He looks questionable, but I can't really bag on his ass yet with just these 3 clips.

It wasn't too bad but the big question is how they train those moves.

Clip 1. A basic Karate-style left hand strike to the throat followed by a right hand chop to the left collar bone and the right hand chop to the right collar bone and lastly a right hand chop to the side of the neck.

Problem #1. The excession windup below the strike make it telegraphic plus there was no use of the lower body to generate real power.

Problem #2. No mention of where to hit the throat. You have to hit the hard part of the trachea (sp)or it won''t do much.

Problem #3. The collar bone strikea where done open handed. A hammer fist would increase the surface area making more likely to make contact. Also if the opponent moved back and you used the open hand its possible that your fingers would be smashed.

Problem #4. The ineffecient movement of using only right hand for left collar bone strike...it could work but its slower and cause you to telegraph when you shift position in order to strike the left collar bone with the right hand.

Problem #5. No mention of where to strike on the side of the neck...unless you hit the V nerve correctly its better to hit the head or box the ears. I punched guys on the side the neck repeatedly and it didn't do to much...why because I missed the smaller points that work...its better to go larger targets like the ears or chin.

Clip 2. Some one rushes at you from the side...so you automatically stick your elbow up face level to the side.

Sounds good at first but its problematic...as it is reactionary and not proactive.

Problem #1. What if the attacker come in at a lower level? He can hit your now exposed liver...kidneys....ribs...postionion himself for a suplex...or trip...

Problem #2. If the attacker comes into lower and moves to your back side he can TAKE YOUR BACK AND BREAK YOUR FUCKING NECK.

Solution...someone rushes you from the side....drop your center of gravity and move in so he can't move you....while moving in see what level he is coming in at and strike (NOT at the side) but in a straight upward motion so you can move your arms back in front of your vital organs if you miss and if the attacker the still manages to close the range before you can bring your elbow back into position you are free use the forward arm to redirect his momentum and throw him to the ground or at least get head control....

    Clip #3....I'll do it later...

Out of curiousity, who would you considered to be a good military H2H instructor and what is your background?

The first two looked kinda strange.

I don't like theorectical stuff performed on dummies too much. It just seems to contrived.

Clip number two was just bizzare. I guess someone really does have the anti-grapple . . .

Clip three looked nice. I liked the way they were training in a resisting manner and the technique with the arm strike is also an opener for a Vale Tudo takedown I worked on in SBG Manchester.

I'd agree that the first two videos were rather iffy, but the third seemed okay. But then he's not training them for the UFC, he's training them for the unlikely possibility of H2H.

Did anybody else see Tommy Lee Jones from 'Under Siege'?
