SamHarber,
I studied fencing under a 72 year old man with a right knee that was half-paralyzed by a medication he took after a surgery. I've never been so utterly dominated by a teacher, and I've never learned so much in so little time.
**The most miraculous power that can verifiably be attributed to "chi" is its ability to be all things to virtually all people, depending on what version of the superstition they are attempting to defend at any given moment.**Normally, I'd say I was grappling, but I was taking down and mounting people, and JFS has kindly informed us that takedowns and being mounted are neither grappling nor anti grappling, so I'm not sure what the **** I was doing. Maybe schroedinger's sparring, where it's neither grappling nor anti-grappling until somoene observes it and collapses the waveform, and then I RNC a cat to death.----fatherdog -

Not scared- appreciative.
I do succeed to score against my sensei, about 1 of mine to 10-20 of his, then again I am practicing for about 12 years now, and he has about 40, and he was much more talented and athletic then me to begin with, so being younger by 20 years doesn't help me much ...
Anyhow, whenever I am getting a good score on him, he smiles happily and encourages me to try one more - he isn't angry, he is jubilant.
If you find a good teacher, you should know to appreciate him, and enjoy the learning.

Osiris, I have never been. And at least one school, that was a big problem...

Every teacher is touchable, unless they're very unique as in perfect which nobody is.why is everyone so scared of thier senseis? they can be touched. the main thing is the intimidation and awe. my old instructer fought 4 on 2 with my brither against me and 3 others and won. sure hes good. but cmon. noone wanted to be the one to drop the master.when he tripped over my brother everyone ran for cover in case he was angry. no one is untouchable

I'm not scared of my teacher. I HATE HIS LIVING GUTS <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>. I stick around in hopes that someday, I will beat him in sparring (perhaps when he's 80-90 years old). Then my life will be over, and I will be content.
