I saw this guy in a Sumo match...it was laughable. I don't think I saw any "technique" anywhere...

Again, the UFC and self-defense are in two different worlds.I remember Yarborough, he got his ass kicked. There was another Sumo wrestler in one of the early UFCs; he also got his ass kicked.
Sumo sucks as a MA for self defence.

On the street, not a lot of people can actually do anything when a 400-pound man comes running. You can do what some of the people did which was use speed to your advantage and such, but street fights end up different. A sumo would concentrate more on grappling you and putting you to the ground and just laying there. Most wouldn't even need to cover the guy's hips... The guy is stuck anyway.
Against a much faster and a much more skilled person, yes, a relatively slow (sumos are not really slow, but slow compared to people who are known for their speed) sumo will get dominated by a faster and smarter opponent 99% of the time on the mat. On the streets, you can just use your speed to kick him in the balls or something, but again, things are a bit diffferent. Or, places where you are limited in moving side to side or at an angle, then you are in trouble. -

Shut up about the **** street aspects ok? We all know you've never been in a fight MartialArtist.
I guarentee that the top 5 UFC fighters or for the matter of fact the top 25 contact fighters in any sport would easily be ready to handle themselves against the average joe.
No I am not talking about if the other guy had a gun or a knife.I'll make one when I can find one I like.
