I've been lucky enough to train with a guy that has trained all over the world & is able to train me in Muay Thai, boxing, JJ/BJJ, & a couple other arts...I count my blessings.
But, in a year or so I'm moving. The thing I'll be looking for is either a place that teaches a "progressive" type MMA training, as in (Ground, striking, weapons) but, if I couldn't, I would stick with either BJJ or Muay Thai (boxing)
Right now that's my primary traing (bjj/MT/Boxing)
I would avoid any one dimentional schools, I did TKD for 6 years, I hate the forms & I feel much of it was training I couldn't use.
BJJ is great, I love training it. However, it does lack very important aspects of fighting "STRIKING" so if you go into pure BJJ, at least with a friend, every once in awhile put on some gloves or do some type striking!!! Be well rounded & have fun..

Cheeze - physically condition. Endurance is VERY important, but strength is too. You need mental and physical endurance... or you'll just let yourself give up when you need to push just a little harder.

Style: Judo and BJJ--
I live in Springfield and I have trained with 3 people out of that school. They are pretty bad ass.
And that's when I figured out that tears couldn't make somebody who was dead alive again. There's another thing to learn about tears, they can't make somebody who doesn't love you any more love you again. It's the same with prayers. I wonder how much of their lives people waste crying and praying to God. If you ask me, the devil makes more sense than God does. I can at least see why people would want him around. It's good to have somebody to blame for the bad stuff they do. Maybe God's there because people get scared of all the bad stuff they do. They figure that God and the Devil are always playing this game of tug-of-war game with them. And they never know which side they're gonna wind up on. I guess that tug-of-war idea explains how sometimes, even when people try to do something good, it still turns out bad. -

All anyone can really say is to go to the school and try it out.
Some good advice has been given but it really boils down to what you want to put into it and what do you expect in return.
