Retired from active fighting to pursue being the best BJJ instructor in the US.

He just fought in Pride and he looked good but not great. He looked ALOT smaller than I've seen him before. I couldnt believe it was the same person.

The guy is great at BJJ and he's produced some really good students from his school like, Danny Ives, but maybe competing at that level just isn't his thing. His performances seem to be just slightly sub-Pride level.

I actually liked what he said in the last part of his interview. He sounded like he takes his job as a teacher very seriously and wants to make his students the best they can be regardless if they're "fighters" or not. Thats the mark of a good instructor.

Too many schools want only fighters. Thats because they really dont know how to teach at all. Teaching in the MA community is terrible lately. Anyone whyo fights thinks they can teach. Hell even Phil "The New York Dickhead" Baroni had a few students.

My instructor isone of Ricardo's eldest students. He was called with the news a day or two before the "word got out". He theorizes that Almeida might've quit because his second child was just born, and considering the slams in the past Pride GP, figuired MMA fights werent worth jeopardizing his family and his ability to teach BJJ to others. I guess I can't complain about him focusing on teaching. This only means he'll have more to give to my teacher, who in turn will pass it on to me. Still, would've been cool to see the guy in action. Especially at the height of his MMA career :( .

He always seemed to nice a guy for MMA.I don't fault him for poting out.But I question his reasoning. His BJJ icons became icons through defending BJJ in MMA.Not by winning mundial.

I have a feeling (or hope perhaps) he'll ultimately come around.
