    Homemade gloves

Now i know this is a bit of a random topic but hey, there you go. What with the Belfast McThrowdown looming, Mr Moose here realised that he might actually need some MMA gloves.

However, due to being the cash-stricken teenager that i am, i don't even have the tiny sum of 12 to pick up some gloves from my club. However i did have some old hockey + boxing gloves lying around...

Managed to use a stanley knife to butcher away all unnecessary padding (e.g. over the fingers, thumb, and on the palm) and i was left with one pair that's too small and very very rough (the hockey gloves) and one pair that's too big but reasonably smooth (the boxing gloves).

Now my question to you guys is - anyone else ever home made gloves? Any suggestions on how to do it? These gloves will do to a point, but they're certainly not perfect. However i won't have any cash for almost two weeks, by which time the throwdown will have been and gone, so any suggestions will have to be costless.

If they fit well wrap the hockey gloves with Duct tape and you might be all set. Also whoever else is going may have gloves.

You should borrow gloves from someone else. Wait and purchase a good pair, it is worth the investment. Besides, you don't want to really hurt someone by using bad gloves. Its not cool.

WS: Gd point. The hockey gloves are okay actually, used them for sparrin before. I'll try and borrow them off someone.

Anthracis: I doubt i'd really hurt someone using them... we're usin the big ass sparrin helmets, i've had someone hit me with a baseball bat while wearin one, i was fine... they've got huge plastic grills on the front, the gloves are actually far more to protect my hand than him. Only other way he'd get hurt is from grappling with them and get slight abrasions on his arms... a m8 wearin them managed to rough up my arms a little bit, but it was hardly worth noticing. I'd definitely wait but that may not be an option.

Try checking at your school to see if there are any "chores" that need to be done. I'm thinking painting, cleaning, small repair work for example, that your teacher would have you do in trade for him buying you a new set of gloves.

    Just a thought.

****! I heard the lads from Belfast came out of the womb tough, but, "Here man - hit me with this bat to see if it hurts" Nails!

I played hockey all my life and if you have the older gloves with softer thumbs and you were able to cut away enough padding they shouldn't pose too much of a hazard to your opponent. I know most h-gloves have a very stiff thumb that would be difficult to remove and render "safe".
