Seen the site and known about the site for some time now. It was created in 1998 as per the webpage.Originally posted by manchuria
I really want to hear what anthony has to say on this
What can I say? I have never met or trained with Reylson, a whose lineage is straight from the source, Carlson Gracie. Only way to see if this is truly bullshit is do what alot of us have done with McDojos. Go down to his school and see for yourself.
Reading the site, it fits all the criteria of being a McDojo. :(
Only saving grace is that Gracie Jiu Jitsu is a viable martial art. How much of it is taught with these privates, I cannot say.
I'm about 3 steps away from joining a TKD school.Last edited by Pandinha; 6/17/2004 6:26am at .

Well, it depends on how much difference doing all your training in privates/semi-privates makes. I'd imagine if I was getting personal attention from a BJJ BB the entire class, every time I trained (!) I would prgress pretty quickly. Still, though, promising a BB after a certain number of lessons is pure McDojo. And the Jiu-jituse history stuff... Yikes.
I don't, however, have a problem with them saying GJJ/BJJ includes some striking. The specific styles they name don't seem to make much sense, but GJJ has always been involved in Vale Tudo fighting. They have always trained for Vale Tudo fighting. Vale Tudo fighting contains striking. You go back and watch the GIA tapes, and they do some punching and kicking in nearly every one of those fights. And that was long before "grapplers realized they needed to be able to hit too" as is so often said of modern MMA fighters.
The only difference is, the BJJ places I've seen have never before claimed it was their own striking, so to speak. They simply do things like bring in boxers and muay thai guys to help teach the striking the aspects of their fight game.

I sentence this person to be BURNED AT THE STAKE!
..or we could just flame him."Training = pain." - I said that.
PizDoff when drunk: "I'm actually MOST pissed that my target for the evening got drink...then I gave her my Bullshido Canada hoodie like a gentleman because she was outside with not much on...did I mention she barfed twice when I got our jackets...steaming barf is kinda fascinating..." - PizDoff. -

While the learning aspect of the art is greatly increased with private instruction, the APPLICATION of the art suffers quite a bit.
The more varied your training partners, the better.
To be exposed to fighters of all sizes, shapes, speeds and strengths is eesential in learning HOW to apply what you have learned on ANYONE. -

Style: Punk Rock--
When I lived in Vegas, I contemplated training at Reylson's. I even drove by the school one day. The windows are all blacked out. It was closed, so I grabbed a flyer and read the "3 1/2 years to black belt" thing. Set off my alarm, because I don't even think BJ Penn got his that fast. And only 3 hrs a week?
I trained elsewhere. -
