A good idea. Also does your school compete in tournaments? How do they do in these competitions? I've found that BJJ schools have a very strong pride in their students and want to show it off in competition. It helps keep all the BJJ schools training hard and learning new things to get an edge for a win.Originally posted by danjo
Go to another BJJ school. Roll with others at your same approximate rank and time in JJ. See how you stack up. If you can, take a few of you and try this. See how you all do compared to the rest. -

You should post your "GJJ < BJJ" as an ARTICLE on the front page. Its important enough to get more exposure and more discussion.Originally posted by Yrkoon9
Let me clarify a few things. The OVERWHELMING MAJORITY of Gracie's teach exceptional jiu jitsu. There are just a few bad apples that want to live in the past, and teach non-family members shitty stuff for exhorbanant fees. I point squarely at Rorion/Helio and Reylson as prime examples.
I've seen numerous reviews of the Rorion Gracie material and they continually say "basic", "behind the times", etc. In defense of Rorion he seems to emphasize that a fighter doesn't need hundreds of techniques but needs core fundamentals.
At any rate, your post is very important and potentially outlines the dangers of stagnation and selfishness that can creep into even the most progressive of fighting systems. -
