The link doesn't work, but I have already heard the story before. Though there is really no such thing as the ancient art of Hwarang-do that stems back to 2000 years, there were such people as the hwarang warriors. They were equivalent to the Samurai of Japan. They were soldiers. Due to the "flowering" manhood translation, these rumors of them being homosexual spring up all the time. It is really just crap.

Are we sure? We know the Samurai did that kind of thing a lot, to use your own comparison, so was there something different about Korean society that made that Hwa Rang different?

What references do you have on the Samurai that proclaimed them to be homosexuals?

Samurai wrote love letters and poetry to one another. They engaged in warrior-love, like the Romans and Greeks. So, they humped each other a lot because it was an honor to make the 2-backed beast with another warrior.

Actually I just watched a documetary about Samurai in a Non-Western Civ class a couple of semesters ago. It mentiones that many Samurai had affairs with actors in the Kubuki theatres.
