Stacking is USUALLY used by bigger guys against smaller guys.

There are lots of methods to get out of triangles, but there is one rule : If it is cinched up, you aren't getting out.

So that means that you can escape from triangles that are ALMOST applied. Making a figure 4 with your legs around their head and arm is NOT a triangle. A triangle is a locked in fig 4 with head and arm control.

Usually if they don't have control of the head or arm yet you can swing around to the side real fast and pull out. Sometimes you can simply run straight forward and ballistically bend them in half. Sometimes you can step over their head and extend your body so they cannot 'crunch' and apply pressure. Sometimes you can put your knee in their ass and sit down. Sometimes you can force your other arm through. Sometimes you can simply lift them up and slam them. Sometimes you can frame up and force your way out. Sometimes you can simply wait for their legs to become tired and wiggle free. Sometimes you can posture up and use a combination of things to get out.

But one thing is certain.... None of this will work on a quickly applied triangle by a skilled practitioner who has it sunk in tight.

use a hexagon. it's got double the angles and four times the sum of the interior angles of a triangle.

Since I have short legs, I can't triangle very well and I try to get a "omoplata" on the arm more than a triangle, sometimes I use the triangle to bring the guy in for a Somali Nose pick, but those are far and few between (sighs).
As for getting out of a triangle, I am from the old school of: "don't get caught to begin with".
    So...

I was thinking about this more, and don't simply run forward at them when you're trying to stack. PULL them into you (and you can move forward too, but it makes you more vulnerable for a sweep). It really puts all the weight onto their neck, and not simply their shoulder blades. They can still finish you, but it's worth a try.

the best way to get out of a triangle is to tap out.

Grip your hands together push your arm over so you can make sure he can't pull your arm over. this will also keep you at elbow length away and breathing. His legs will tire and bcome unlocked then stack and turn. See Yoshida vs Silva. Watch for the straight armbar right after though.

the pistons seem to be doing a good job getting out of the triangle, maybe you should ask larry brown about it
