    Hell yeah! Hell no!
Years ago when I was actively accumulating my martial arts research by visiting the various dojos littered about the island of Oahu, I happened upon a tkd school located near an automobile dealership.

As I was watching some young, pompous tkd black belt instructing a couple of subordinates in the finer points of this Olympic sport, the tkd instructor in a gesture obviously meant to "impress" his students, proceeded to go through the motions of a spinning reverse kick. Sadly, much to the tkd's apparent embarrassment, he promptly fell on his ass.

Keep in mind now, NOBODY was attacking him, he fell over of his own accord. Ever the gentleman, I merely stared dumbfounded hardly believing that such incompetence actually existed in the martial arts (a growing fact I'm constantly confronted with on a daily basis). This occurred a mere 10 ft from where I was standing and it took a supreme effort to keep from laughing, because I'm never one to add to another's misery by openly mocking it in public, had the panel of glass not been separating us, I would have immediately rushed forward to help the tkd buffoon to his feet.

When it comes to tkd stylists (tkd is an excessively flashy and sissy kicking art), they are so incompetent and defensive, any forward movement against them will instantly destroy their timing, throwing them into a state of chaos. They are practically helpless once you move within punching range (as are most "standup arts"). However, if you want to give the tkd the stylist "a chance to prove his style," let him kick at you, it's so easy to drop these guys, especially if they want to do some Chuck norris spinning reverse jump kick at you, that guy's going to eat the pavement in the next split second. The point is not to stay rooted in place as the tkd clown makes an aggressive move towards you, that's how an individual gets kicked.

Even grapplers are cognizant of this fact, they see (and count on) the hesitation and indecision in their opponent, they can take these tkd defenders down in the blink of an eye; making all those years of tkd servility ultimately worthless.

I think this is a problem easily fixed by FULL CONTACT SPARRING. They'd quickly root out the bullshit and start learning what works. Oh, some sparring with other guys who fight full contact in other "styles" would help too...

But its pretty sad that they can't fight at all. It really is.

    I liked that, all true.

Kungfoolss, please post your humble opinion on Brazilian Jui-Jitsu / submission fighting.

    I'm honestly interested.

Perhaps, you would care to specify your point of interest?

My art is to wait until my opponent shoots, then remain standing and attack him while he's on his knees. I'll go fight in the UFC now...

I'm interested to hear that too. To tell you the truth, I want to hear if you're deluded enough to believe that SCARS would have a chance against BJJ.
