It says that 4 of the fights are under K-1 kickboxing rules and 3 under Kyokushin knockdown rules... So I wonder how much the bjj will help him in a standup fight..

Not much I'd guess. Hopefully he's got some actual standup striking training.

Yeah, but I suppose that by entering a fight under K-1 rules you probably know what to expect. It will be fun to see anyway. Hopefully it will be broadcasted somewhere, otherwise I'll have to search for it on the internet to see if someone ripped it so I can download it.. I wonder how much Filho can do, he used to be good.. But it was awhile since I saw him fight.

Maori - as in Tangata Whenua O Aotearoa.

Vowel pronunciation is identical to Japanese vowels.

Toa translates as power/strength. Sort of a conglomeration of the similar concepts of mana (strength or prestige in a mental or spiritual sense) and kaha (strenght in an emotional or physical sense).

Don't know much about the guy personally, but he seems to ahve got a lot of his style - moko (facial tats) and name etc from the movie Once Were Warriors. Funny, the 10 year anniversary of the movie is coming up here, i wonder if he made a marketing deal?:D
