The Challenge - issued to all grapplers/bjj'ers etc
Hey guys, I was just reading that 'karate, muay thai, boxing' thread and that whole 'kung fu vs grapplers' started and all the grapplers and what not started mocking it, so I was just wondering.
How DO you beat grapplers/bjjers/whatever?
I imagine most of the people who do these kind of styles would know the weaknesses of them, so I was just wondering what people think their weaknesses of their styles are.
If other people are bitter about any serious encounters in which their martial arts training has failed as well, feel free to rant, think of it as a support group ;)
Also, this is my first post on this thread, I think these forums are great
:D so brutually honest.

What exactly is your "challenge"?
In response to your query: You train to beat fighters of certain styles by training against that style, or if required/desired by training in that style.

learn to grapple... well... ok... what else could I do, as my karate school isnt exactly big on the whole grapple thing.
Shu: my challenge is, for grapplers/wrestlers/etc to try and analyze their own styles and find what their weaknesses are in them. (and obviously, how I can capitalize on them... oops.. probably shouldnt have said that, oh well)

Train against grapplers and learn takedown defenses as well as rudimentary grappling so as to know how, when and with what to escape.
Think of it this way: I, currently grappling, want to learn how to defend against strikers. How do I do this without learning the rudiments of striking and training against strikers? That's right I don't.

You go to your strenghts..so if that is striking, then you strike. But, as other posters have indicated, you better understand grappling. that doesn't mean you are going to outgrapple them, but it will help you understand the game (and perhaps avoid an armbar or two). If you are a striker, then learn to grapple but focus on two skills: (1) avoiding the takedown (ala Cro Cop), and (2) getting back on your feet (ala chuck Liddell).

Study CroCop's (or some other decent standup fighter's) anti-grapple style...
Train really really REALLY hard...
