    Question about Achilles lock

I may begin practicing BJJ, so I've been looking at some BJJ techniques and such.

    I came across this demonstration -- http://bjj.org/techniques/thetechniques/moraesAchilles/

I gather from another thread in this forum, and from the title of the damn lock that this thing is supposed to cause a submission from pressure on the opponent's ankle.

However, when I look at the images on that site, it looks like this hold isn't quite brutal enough to physically damage (like in a self-defense application) someone.

It sounds like I'm wrong from what they are saying in the other thread, but I'd appreciate it if someone could provide some more details for my n00b ass.

That's what I'm asking too: is it mainly pain compliance or what?

If done right it ends up being a compression against the ankle lock and a hyper extension of the foot ligaments. The guy in the picture is not doing it right. I've broken at least one guys foot with this lock.

Yeah, it's what we call lock and load, you slide your arm down until you feel the heel. Then you go into a scissor slicing mode and then isolate, crush, extend, and arch.

Haha, that's cool. There are a few guys here on Bullshido (GajusCaesar comes to mind) with similar avatars.

Maybe I'll take the opposite approach. I need to record a match of me just totally getting my ass kicked.

That's not really Dochter. He couldn't beat the crap out of a 5 year old retarded kid on crutches.
