Someone not long ago ranted to me about how terrible the lactose in milk is for adults. He wasn't very specific and he isn't very trustworthy, but I still must wonder if there is at least some validity to his claim.
Is milk really bad for you? I mean, it is kind of fatty, but aside from that I don't see anything immediately bad for you.
And would lactose-free milk (like Lactaid) be any better for you?
[On a side note, this guy had me try some Lactaid and it was surprisingly good.]

Most of the anti-milk arguements that I have heard either center around a) the steroids/antibiotics used in the dairy industry to increase yeild and b) that many allergies can be heightened by milk. I don't know the validity of either arguement.

I think the only time lactose is bad is when you're lactose intolerant like me.

There are no "good" or "bad" foods. There are just foods with different nutritional values.
So no, regular milk is not "bad".

Brand is correct.
Lactose is not bad for you, any moreso than any other sugar. Only if you have trouble digesting it is it bad for you. Besides, milk has so many other quality nutritional benefits...

this is what I was talking about (first sites that came up on google, although I admit I like Gary Null). Would anyone care to refute?

I am lactose intolerant so I be biased. Milk is baby food - good for baby calves - not what we were meant to consume daily IMO.
Here is an interesting Guardian Newspaper Article that discusses the pro's and cons (I know I am supposed to summarise any article - they point out that there are many pros and cons...). one point they do make is that in the US women consume more milk than any other country but have the highest rates of osteoparosis (sp?)
In the West we have higher rates of breast cancer that has been attributed to or consumption of dairy produce.

Milk is not supposed to be digested by adults. After like age 3 or so your body lacks the digestive enzymes to properly digest milk (lactose). So EVERY adult is lactose intolerent to a certain extent. You could drink it, but digestively speaking its not the best thing for you. I have been drinking the lactaid milk product and I like it. It does seem to digest better and it does taste good. I have tried to go without milk but I like cereal to much.
