Fine, as long as you're willing to try growing a vagina and live in Hyderabad knowing you could be gang-raped by men on a bus on any given day.

You might want to learn Wushu sword while you're at it. You probably won't get access to better weapons.

Haha, but here's the unfunny part of both articles: the fears of the mother that the (patriarchal) community would shun an unveiled woman competing in Wushu.

Typical men, always making it about your own needs.

Nobody shames or forces you to wear a veil, right?

She also believed that if Fareeha doesn't don the veil--which she couldn't during the competition--she will be called 'shameless' by the community and immediate acquaintances. After all, not only will she be showing her face, she will be doing it in front of thousands of people.

    Accidental down vote.

No irony is too glaring to ignore in the name of social justice.

    Yep.

We're talking at cross purposes here.

    I'm addressing the irony.

    You're addressing the literal.

This means that, not only are we never going to come to an agreement, but we're not even going to be arguing the same topic. I'd like to make this sentence more mansplain-y, any advice?

    Sorry, perhaps I've been unclear.

My understanding is that there are various strands of feminist theory, that however I only partially know by hanging around lefistst blogs.

In particular, the concept of 'patriarchy' is mostly linked to one of these strands.

If you see Mad Max, Fury road some of the concepts of that movie are taken from this strand of feminism (although obviously in a sci-fi way).

But, the ideas of equal oppurtunity, freedom for women and a 'gender-blind' society are much more general, and are linked to feminism in general, not just to that strand.
Also, at least to some degree, these ideas are now mainstream in the west (and it is easy to feel feminist when comparing to muslims, indians and many others).

My problem is that the story of the article falls under the 'general feminism' group, and not specifically under the 'patriarchy' label, that I think is more restricted.
