    Hell yeah! Hell no!

Longest confirmed sniper kill, confirmed. 3450 meters

    https://www.theglobeandmail.com/news...ticle35415651/

    Holyshit.
A sniper with Canada’s elite special forces in Iraq has shattered the world record for the longest confirmed kill shot in military history at a staggering distance of 3,450 metres.

Sources say a member of Joint Task Force 2 killed an Islamic State insurgent with a McMillan TAC-50 sniper rifle while firing from a high-rise during an operation that took place within the last month in Iraq. It took under 10 seconds to hit the target.
    that's ummm 2.143 miles.

The kill was independently verified by video camera and other data, The Globe and Mail has learned.

“Hard data on this. It isn’t an opinion. It isn’t an approximation. There is a second location with eyes on with all the right equipment to capture exactly what the shot was,” another military source said.

A military insider told The Globe: “This is an incredible feat. It is a world record that might never be equalled.”

The world record was previously held by British sniper Craig Harrison, who shot a Taliban gunner with a 338 Lapua Magnum rifle from 2,475 metres away in 2009.

Previously, Canadian Corporal Rob Furlong had set the world record in 2002 at 2,430 metres when he gunned down an Afghan insurgent carrying an RPK machine gun during Operation Anaconda.
Over a kilometer past the previous confirmed kill? I knew those 50's were amazing but I can't wrap my head around that.
I want to see the video.

From the article it sounds like they had people there at target too.
Maybe more of a team effort than usual. 2 miles is really fucking with my head. You can't make that shot from 0 elevation can you? Everything have I shot was under well under 100 meters... like mainly 50-75 yards.
I wonder how long they had that shot set up?
Did the duo see the building and the clear line of site to a possible hot spot and drool over the chance for weeks?
Or was it on the fly?
    ...

Either way I bet #BaconClownShoes#ISIS are having a much harder time wrapping their heads around it.
You know those particular individuals got that video hand delivered to them just for the psyops value.

That's amazing! Could he even see the target in his scope?

It was from a pretty tall building. And yeah. Dude is part of JTF2; the best SF unit on the planet you probably haven't heard of. And from what the sniper said it was absolutely a huge team effort.

Yeah. The optics and weapon system helped him make the shot but he needed to be competent to be able to use them both correctly. So in this case he's extremely competent with some extremely effective kit.

Truly god-like amounts of math and luck went into this. I get the impression that the real reason they tried this was "because we can." And the footage from this is going to probably replace pornhub for everyone that took part for AT LEAST three months.
