    Hell yeah! Hell no!

Is this a good shotokan school?

    http://www.brevardshotokan.com/

been looking into it for a little bit, good sign that they're affiliated with the JKA, but does anyone here have any first hand experience with them?
I may go look at them in person sometime later, only hesitant because they're a long drive out. One thing I also spotted with them is there is some child black belts. This seems to be sort of common from what I've seen in Shotokan, so I'm not thinking too much of it.

Is it taught by someone with the last name Machida?
Of the single rapier fight between valiant men, having both skill, he that is the best wrestler, or if neither of them can wrestle, the strongest man most commonly kills the other, or leaves him at his mercy.

Is Machida shotokan?? I thought he branded as Machida style karate.

To the point of the thread, the best suggestion is for you to try out one of their classes yourself and see if it fits for you. No one on here will be able to realistically answer your question.

If you're going to check it out I would definitely look at one of their kickboxing classes as well. If they do have a class that offers full contact sparring it would go a long way in terms of keeping their training honest.

No Machida, but in the about page it lists their black belts and instructors. Has anyone heard of them before?
Also, I'll go check them out eventually. Can't say when, though.

They lost me at all of this BULLSHIT

    WHAT IS KARATE-DO?

Karate is a martial art (method of combat), which employs a variety of physical techniques, including punches, kicks, blocks, and strikes. Karate puts an emphasis on the acquisition of spiritual insight and development. In traditional Karate-Do, it is always kept in mind that the true opponent is one's self and that the ultimate goals are to seek perfection of one’s character and to touch the lives of others in a positive way.
They are selling you a whole bag of esoteric bullshit.
You know what good Karate is about? Kicking ass....

Not trying to teach you to be a better person.

Oddly enough though, the best people I have ever met are always in full contact combat sports.
Something about actually having to respect your training partners when you are doing things that can seriously hurt each other.

Will keep in mind. I'll see what kind of sparring they've got when I go check it out.
I know kata isn't a huge factor in identifying mcdojos, but their black belts seem to be really good. That is, from someone who doesn't know too much about shotokan kata.

Oh joy? Are you interested in how to preform choreography or how to fight?

I did Shotokan for about 13 years until I started BJJ 12 years ago.

What are looking for from potentially training?

Maybe I can dance my enemy to death, goodlum

Sweats, I'm mainly looking for exercise and how to fight. Why I want to learn Shotokan though, is that I'm really into the aesthetic of it. It seems like it could be fairly effective as well.
