What is the best set of rules for sparring?

my rules have you not hitting the face or groin, because we have no protective equipment.

NO protective equipment ends up meaning loss of training time, do to injury. Rules of not hitting the face or groin is cheating yourself.

what tourny rules allow you groin shots? And I've tallyed it. 500 dollars for 2 sets of sparring gear. no thanks. I've never had to "heal" from our sparring sessions. not an hour, not a day, not 15 minutes.

Allow groin shots, but use a cup. It still hurts like a bitch.

? Wtf, who allows groin shots in any sort of competition or tourney? Wear a cup for those accidental shots, but allowing groin hits is just stupid.

Edit: But you're worried about injury, you really should get some face cages for head shots. They're not too expensive - I think you can get a workable mask for around $40. Without face shots, you really are losing out.

For $100 you can a couple of pairs of boxing gloves and have money left over for shin pads. If all else fails, buy used stuff. It may smell, but it will work.

If you are studying a striking art where training does not allow, or does not progress to, head shots then it is time to find something else.

I've withheld judement untill this time. But if you have never hurt yourself or your opponant sparring full contact w/o any equiptment, then you suck and have no business teaching others.
