fighting without gloves will screw up your hands even more.

headbutts rule. xing yi uses forehead headbutts against the fist, ribs, or whereever. it involves pecuilar training methods though.

I have a question about hitting the bag barenuckle.
Whenever I do it, the skin off my middle knuckle peels off. This also happens when I wrap my hands. Although it doesn't hurt, it's a pain in the ass because the wound takes like 2 weeks to heal - every time I make a fist the scab just splits open.
The only time I don't cut myself is when I hit the bag with gloves.

    Anyone else have this problem?

That happened to me all the time. I would even bleed through my crappy biking gloves that I used for hitting the bag. Let it heal fully and the skin will be much tougher.

wow this thread is full of bullshit.

you guys don't wrap your hands or use gloves?

do you LIKE picking up a spoon to eat your cereal in the morning?

unless you are wrapping and wearing boxing gloves, you are doing damage to your wrists and bones in the hand. there is no "conditioning" of the fist.

either that, or you guys punch like faeries.

On one hand, late in Oyama's life his hands were seriously fucked up. He had to sleep with them in some position so that they didn't rub against the sheets too much.

On the other hand, that guys sounds like he's afraid of damaging his manicure.

Mine makes us do the same thing. It to condition us to keep our hands up and still fight since you generally fight with lighter gloves.

Very true from all the hard core makiwara training. Many of the old schooler (the 1000 strikes a day group) caution not to go overboard like they did.

My hands aren't great looking after 30 years of hitting things but I can still type, and do all the normal everyday tasks without pain or lack of range of motion. (knock on wood)

Does anyone really advocate hiting things full force with no wrap OR gloves?

    I hope not.
