I was going to recommend that, but the set-up can take a bit more time than a lot of Judo refs give for newaza. The No gi version is a lot faster.

I thought maybe Anaconda or some similar head and arm type of choke. At one point, we were working pretty hard on the anaconda, and one of my students (this was a few years ago) almost pulled it off a few times in competition.

I may show it to my BJJ coach and see what he thinks.

We are finding that taking the back with seat belt grip is totally unexpected by judoka at this time. It's so versatile, but the reverse or front position, which happens frequently, is a bit different.
Its like a shitty head arm...but they have hands on the gi so this may be better for flipping them over? That seems to be their goal.

For me, I would be attacking chokes there not trying to flip them. Arm in Guillotine, anaconda, anaconda-tine, dare ,darce/brabo and Peruvian necktie /Hell Strangle, clock chokes or take the back

Its the same choke. It's just nomenclature.

Anaconda is arms on the outside darce/brabo is arms on the inside.

We ended up calling it a "reverse seat belt" position, for lack of better term.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Go to about :20 in this video for a reference. Thanks to Pshipdestroyer for the inadvertent help.
If you mean the one at 0:22 we refer to that as front control, though some call it head and arm control. As well as the Anaconda choke there is also a Loop Choke, Peruvian Necktie, as well as a arm in guillotine and d'arce amongst others.

Once you get bored of those you can also come around the side to take the back ,
setup a crucifix with lapel choke, Clock choke, Suicide choke, Hangman choke, Hungarian roll , rolling arm-bar
    alt rolling arm-bar.

Or just bulldoze them into side control.

    Thanks, Rayce.

I thought I could see the guy positioning his hands on the gi, but the video is not at a good angle.

I believe you are correct, the point was to flip the guy over and pin him, not do a choke. That is typical of Judo. You have to defend chokes, armbars, and pins, and it's tough to do all three at once.

The strategy we usually use is to go for a choke, they defend, then can switch to a turnover or armbar or multiply force of choke by rolling (like Hell Strangle, among many others). There are a lot of possibilities, so you have to have a sequence in mind, until you get good enough to do stuff on the fly, which is the ultimate goal.

Like I posted earlier, the seat belt from the side to a back take is stupid simple and works. If it doesn't, there are a lot of other options.

I love all the head and arm variations, and we are going to work them into the program. Huge potential in Judo competition...

Thanks, I had surveyed a few videos, and noticed that, more or less.

Thanks, I saw quite few things to do from there, some of which I remembered when I saw them, others, new to me.

It's going to be open season on turtlers, not that it isn't already, but it's going to be even worse for our opponents.

It also bears a passing resemblance to the "Cow catcher" from wrestling - specifically a modified version involving a gi :)
