Why TCC Can't Be Trained For MMA

That's right. You won't see TCC players competing in MMA because...

No understanding of 5-Steps beyond theory.

Without comprehensive 5-Steps training, TCC has no platform - no delivery system.

Players are better off training Muay Thai, kickboxing, BJJ, submission wrestling, etc, if they wanna compete in MMA.

From what I've read online about the way TCC people are training for the ring, and the ideas they espouse in their preparations, it reads the same as how a boxer, kickboxer, or Thai fighter describes their training, strategies, techniques, etc.

This problem can only be compounded in an MMA context. There will never be a strictly TCC approach to MMA unless 5-Steps are trained in a comprehensive manner which is congruent with the competitive format. Not to mention a TCC ground-fighting set for addressing that aspect of the game.

To really understand the mind/intent of TCC, there can't be the idea, "I train to win". This is the first thing which has to be resolved in a player's thinking. So much harder to maintain this neutral mindset when the player steps in the ring or on the mat.

The study and practice of 5-Steps facilitates that neutral mindset and allows the player to maintain under pressure.

There's a lot more to 5-Steps than just the spatial/positional aspects. Those things are just the result of understanding the underlying principles involved.

    maybe more later...

    For the most part, yes.

Actually, for the most part they don't even know their own theories, let alone the practice. 5 steps is pretty core and very few of the Taiji guys I've met have any idea what they are. Most don't even know what the 13 postures are.

Basic basic stuff if your going to talk about application.

p.s. I'm not a TCCer, just an IMA enthusiast and there's a lot of crossover.

    Tai Chee Chuan

The incorrect but nonetheless most common pronounciation of the style we are talking about.

    Properly romanized: Taijiquan.
