I agree with you in that I think Ronin's actions were excessive regardless of whether the perceived threat was real or not.
Home Depot has controls in place to deal with situations like this. Ronin could have said, (to the clerk) call the manager and I'll wait for him/her to get here. Most likely they would have given the man the choice of leaving and not returning or going to jail and paying a hefty fine.
Conversely, I don't think Ronin actions in any way qualify as "sociopathic". Hot headed, definitely, but if people want to talk **** they should be prepared for the consequences.

I appreciate all the feed back guys, specially from Doc and deus.
I would NOT have posted this if I was NOT prepared to hear from both sides.
While I feel I am NOT a sociopath, I very well could be wrong, so please feel free to ask any of the guys who have meet me at the Totonto Throwdown.
I have NO online persona, what you see is what you get.
Perhaps my time in the military and as a bouncer has left some scars that I need to look into.
If that is the case, I thank you for pointing that out.
Dochter, you know I love you man ;)
And I respect your opinion.
Deus, I don't know what qualifies you to make a comment like that, but, hey, everyone is entitiled to their opinion. I respect that.
No hard feelings on my part.
I will look deeply into what you gentlemen have said and why I felt I need to interefer in that situation and why it ended up, as you seem to thing, "excessive".
Even though the police report did NOT think that is was.
As for Home depot having safeguards in place for situations like this, they call the cops, that is all they do.
Again, I thank all of you for your opinions.
damn son, i thought it was fiction when i was reading this. how come i never get to see this stuff happen
Of course Ronin if you meet another prick you have to do the same thing and "INTRODUCE HIM TO THE PAVEMENT!":D
"Santa is dead kid, welcome to the suck"
A little late in the thread but......
I think that you did the "right" thing because A-holes like that deserve what we call in the military "peer counciling". However, I do think that you overreacted with sense that you could have been brought up on charges for assult. Sometimes the moral thing isnt always the legal thing to do though, its a matter of getting cought is all. Id be carefull about what situations I enacted my 'civilian justice' like you did, but since you are not in danger of getting caught, then you made out fine in my book.
I have niether the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manor of which I provide it.
