Slaps can be okay as well

I have seen some people hit the bag with their palms, its a sad sight.
    Slap, slap, and more slap...
    Its a palm HEEL.
    bunch of numb nuts !!
You've met Bluming. Would you want him to slap you with a palm? Same thing with sumo guys. It's a simple matter of training.

Personally, I've noticed palm strikes are good for the following:

o really close range striking -- they're just "less slack" than a fist and easier than an elbow

o looping stuff from funky angles -- these would be slaps

o when my knuckles are scarred up, I can at least train those

Well, at least I think it is incredibly stupid. I never heard of a vertical palm strike.
Make a veritcal fist, noe open your hand and hit with the heel of the palm, without turning your hand over, keep the back of the hand facing outward, NOT up or towards you.

That is how I see MANY WC guys do palms on the Wooden dummy.

Strange! We don´t do that, we keep our fingers pointing up.

Palm strikes come in at least two flavors, hook and cross, right?
I would liken it to the boxing or the muay thai of internal kung fu, even though that's like calling apples the oranges of the apple world. --WalkOn

one thing i like about palms ... is that you can transition from a hook palm to a knife hand ...

that gives you a decent amount of reach ...

Big fan of palms, not so much of the knife hand. Never really found them much use.

in WT -palm strikes can have the fingers pointing upwards, sidewards or even with fingers pointing downwards(you need good wrist flexibilty to do this one)

there is a "po-pai"(one of heihachi's attack) strike which is a double palm strike with one palm pointing upwards and the other downwards
