Winner Taps Out, Sporting or No?

I kinda see where he's coming from but at the same time it could be seen as a bit unfair on the other guy, after all it's for him to say he's had enough. Mixed feelings here.

What do you think? Particularly interested to hear any amateur fighters perspective.

Edit: not sure why the vid doesn't show. Its short 1.37 minutes of your time.

Must suck for the other guy. Like tongue-kissing your sister in public.

Seems pretty patronizing to the other fighter.

Yeah my initial reaction was mixed but a little bit of putting myself in the 'winners' shoes and it does seem patronizing.

For me this guy was maybe being 'compassionate' ( the dude was getting his ass handed to him badly ) but not sporting. In the sporting context the ref should decide or the fighter.

I can understand why he would do that. I mean it looked like he out classed the other guy so much that he did have a good chance of sending him to the hospital, and because it was an amateur fight, the only thing at stake was his pride. If I was in his position, and couldn't finish the match without injuring my opponent or not fighting to the best of my ability, I would probably do the same thing. At the end of the day, I do this because I enjoy it and it brings me peace of mind. Not because I enjoy hurting people.

I do respect what he did, but I don't think he gave the other guy long enough. He could have at least gone the round.

If he massively outclassed him, seems like he should've been able to beat him without seriously injuring him. I think he should've tried to grapple him at that point. Either he could put him in a submission so he could beat him without injury, or he'd be outgrappled and lose, which he was gonna do anyway by quitting.

I think the guy who tapped out is an idiot. When you choose to fight you need to understand and accept that you might get beaten up and you might beat the heck out of somebody. The other fighter has himself, the ref and his corner to look after him if necessary.
