    Hell yeah! Hell no!

Any berimbolo players here? Need your thoughts in this specific position

I don't use berimbolo in competitions a lot but I think it's fun to do in the gym. However when it comes to berimbolo, my sources here are limited. I don't really have anyone I can ask.

So wanted to know what you think about this situation where I cannot come up with answers which satisfies me enough.

Sometimes when I want to go for this position where I can follow with leg drag or twister hook, before I can control the opponents left leg like in the picture, he bends his knee towards himself and squeezes his left foot under me, kind of hiding his foot and creating a shield with his shin. Then he follows up with a sit up where he tries to get an underhook or whatever, which kind of stops the inverting game for me.

What do you do in this situation? Does it happen to you?
Or is there a common mistake that ends up with that reaction when you go for this?

    Thanks a lot guys!

Sorry, even though I drill it once in a while, I abandoned the Berimbolo game in favor of an Xguard centric game around a year ago.

Do you have a membership to http://www.artofjiujitsu.com/online-training-program? Lots of Berimbolo videos with lots of details.

Ok I didn't have much luck in here, but still want to share for people who might be ending up with the same situation with me.

If that happens to you as well, it means you are inverting too far from the guy.You have to be as close as possible.

Plus if it still happens, an over under pass seems like a good follow up

That makes sense. I do a lot of X hook from Double Guard situations and once you secure the X hook on the far leg and cross the near foot over you have to get your ass up into the air to shuffle yourself close enough to Leg Drag. This sounds very similar. Rafael Freitas has some material out on that from the X hook.

I can picture what you are doing. When you invert are you switching from the near leg to reaching for the far leg while you are upside down before completing the motion? I find I can use that to tighten my inversion if there is too much space.

Yes I agree with what you said so in my drilling sessions I am now focusing on closing distance, especially if I screw up. I mainly focus on just pulling the pants and pulling myself in like miyaos do, it seems pretty straightforward to me.

Is the x hook the one mendes bros use? I'm not really sure, I will search and study a bit with the info you gave me and post my feedback afterwards.

Take a look at Gianni Grippo's stuff from Digitsu? His Next Gen DLR DVD has some good Berlimbolo stuff and good options off of it.

Gianni has a great Berimbolo. If that is your game, it's worth picking up. His details on the toe hold was worth the $ for me.

Did you go through this vid? I found it really helpful on the details as to what I'm doing and correct pressures:

I really enjoy going for it, then just coming back into mount from the side, instead of the full inversion to back, catches a bunch of people off guard.
Daniel: I don't know if I know enough karate.

    Miyagi: Feeling correct.

Daniel: You sure know how to make a guy feel confident.

Miyagi: You trust the quality of what you know, not quantity.

If I were the bottom man I'd heel hook. If I were the top man I'd knee bar.
