ID:	15898Sherdog and the MMA Underground displayed a disturbing willingness to cave in to pressure from TLI lawyers on February 12, 2014. A number of threads containing commentary related to the Team Lloyd Irvin rape dramatics were deleted, upon those administrators receiving legal threats. Within a day or so, the threads were restored, after massive hue and cry. One such comment on Sherdog:

And the reply by Sherdog admin Lethal:

"No can do man, sorry. Freedom of speech doesn't apply to Sherdog, since it's a Private site. They've asked us to remove all posts and threads, so it has to be done.
Yes, there have been threats of legal action."

Both The Underground and Sherdog are commercially driven and cultivate relationships with high profile entities in the MMA and martial arts community. Bloody Elbow, another respected publication, successfully resisted a number of similar threats and continues to report on the TLI/rape culture story as it develops. It is also commercially driven but has strong support from parent company Vox Media to report news of note and interest to its target audience and beyond. It probably helps that Vox Media and SBNation are Washington DC-based and have people working for them that are very familiar with the law and politics regarding libel and defamation, and while it appears both Sherdog and The UG lacked confidence in their own understanding of such laws.

I'm not sure it's as much about fear of legal action as it is a reflection of those sites' respective priorities in keeping notable fighters happy so they don't leave said sites... among other thing.

Those sites don't have our reputation for legally dick-punching people who go after us.

For a site supposedly full of fighters they sure are a whole bunch of fucking pussies.

The fact that you (Phrost, Sam, Mods) are willing tell dipshits like LI to **** off and then make fun of the empty threats is why I love this site.

I think I have only seen one or two fighters post there in close to a year, Ian McCall, and it was a thread for a shoop contest and a message to reschedule one of his fights, and Enson Inoue.

So, in regards to Permalost, I think it has more to do about Sherdog retaining press credentials and relationships than losing Fighter-status users. They have more than enough volume of normal users to keep the site alive.

What would bullshido do if in this scenario it was threatened?

I would like to think the legal equivalent of a response of "go **** yourself" would be the result.

That's kinda why I post here albeit infrequently.
