11 Year Old Boy Attempts Suicide Over My Little Pony Teasing
So, here's the short version of the story.....
According to the parents, this 11 year old boy hung himself because he was bullied at school for being a fan of the My Little Pony cartoon. He's now hospitalized and may never recover.
Let me start by saying I have a son this age and I think it's terrible that this happened. But I find the reactions of many people online to be completely out of touch with reality. Blame the schools....blame the bullies.....blame society.......blah, blah, blah.
Bull fucking ****. This boy is hospitalized right now because his parents failed him. They deserve the blame. It's their fault this happened.
In case you're not familiar with the My Little Pony weirdness - it's a girl's cartoon from the 80s that was revived a few years ago and oddly now has a huge following of loser grown ass men known as Bronies. For real. You can't even make this **** up.
These fuckwads are complete wastes of oxygen. They're an embarrassment to the male sex. They're an embarrassment to their poor children. They're worthless. If you are a 30 year old man that has a passion for cartoons about pink ponies, rainbows, magical friendships and other such bullshit, you're fucked up. That's all there is to it. You deserve to be laughed at and ridiculed mercilessly by your fellow humans.
If you watch the video, it's pretty clear that this boy's parents (who are weird as ****, by the way) obviously condoned and even encouraged this ridiculous behavior with their son. Even now, with their son in the hospital they're preaching the virtues of this dumbass cartoon. They apparently haven't even stopped to consider that maybe they could have done something to avoid this situation.
People need to wake the **** up. If you have some oddball fetish yourself, whatever. But if you encourage that behavior in your kids you're setting them up to be culled from the herd. Kids don't give a **** about your sense of right and wrong. They smell weakness and they attack it. Ponder this all you want, but you're never going to change it. If you're willing to gamble your kid's welfare on your silly idealism, then you're to blame when the kid gets trampled.
If you're going to purposely raise a kid that you know is going to get tons of negative attention for their behavior, then you better make damn sure he's tough enough to take the heat. Good luck just sitting there with a defiant attitude because people should be more accepting.
This kid's parents, especially his Dad could have easily steered him in a direction that wouldn't have made him the laughing stock of his school. Actually, the guy in the interview is his stepfather. Maybe he didn't give a **** about the kid enough to prioritize the kid's welfare and emotional health above his own love of pink cartoon ponies.
tl;dr - Kid hangs himself for having **** parents.

Don't get me started.

The webpage cites a study of Bronies in which they tested as more introverted than normal. That's pretty obvious here. The parents are too involved in their lifestyle and personal philosophies to figure out what's in their kids' best interests and act on their behalf.

Edit: this story somehow reminds me of one in an earlier thread about some people who decided their cat was going to be a vegetarian, and almost killed it.

It's me and the pygmy pony behind the dental-floss bush.
I gotta disagree. As a parent, it's in my interest to monitor and approve whatever media my daughter is viewing. That said, as long as it's harmless, she can watch whatever show she wants. I'm not going to try to limit her from enjoying something because it might not be cool. When I was a kid I was teased for watching Star Trek. I played the Star Wars RPG. I was huge nerd basically. Was it my parents fault for not teaching me how lame my interests were (are)? That seems like a huge amount of bullshit to me.
I'm not saying parents here are blameless. But to say that there allowing him to watch MLP caused this, seems ridiculous. You want to say that they should have had a more proactive role in teaching their child how to deal with adversity, how to deal with being teased and/or bullied, I'm right there with you. You want to say how dare they allow their child to gain interest in something that I think is weird, than, as long as it's harmless, we're not on the same page.
Anyway, that's my opinion as someone who is most definitely not a MLP fan, or bronie, or whatever.
Being a Male in my mid 30s that enjoys cartoons and who has seen a **** ton of My Little Ponies Friendship is magic.
I don't get how anyone can be a bronnie.
Don't get me wrong the show isn't horrible, hell sometimes I even find myself sort of watching it when my daughter has it on. I couldn't however imagine going to netflix and turning it on for myself.
Ok on to the real topic.
For **** sake how does this **** happen? As a parent how do you not keep watch?
This goes back to the other thread, this is where you teach your kid, either to stop doing **** that gets the teased, or to pop a mother fucker in the face.
Cool you like my little ponie fine stop fucking talking about it at school if its going to get you so teased that it actually bothers you.
I can only assume these **** twit parents bought the kid MLP T-shirts and Back Packs and all that **** as well.
Sorry but I am pretty damn sure if I had a son I wouldn't buy him MLP merchandise.
I would put MLP patches all over his judo gi if that's what he wanted.

I don't believe anyone should be ridiculed for taking enjoyment out of the little things in life. Given that he attempted to kill himself shows an obvious lack of emotional stability and conditioning. May simply just be a case of natural selection
