    That's why I fenced Epee.

Although I don't see where the debate lies. When I was officiating I didn't argue with people. I would let them tell me what was bothering them and let them know their concerns had been noted, but if they started trying to bitch and argue I would yellow card them pretty quick.

I used to train with some guys who would stroppily rules-lawyer every point in training. Damn, that was annoying.

That's why I like kendo. No protests from the players, at all. If you feel like arguing with the ref, you're done for the day - I've never actually seen it. Don't like a decision? You can have your coach/sensei protest to the head table, where it will be duly noted and ignored.

No coaching from the sidelines, either. No victory celebrations.

Back to Kendo, I doubt much of that goes on or is allowed...in judo, though, everytime I leg-pick one of my students they get to yell "hansokumake" at me, LOL.

If it's just jigeiko, nobody's calling points anymore than they would be during randori in judo. Were you happy with your hit/throw? No? Keep working on it.

If we're doing shiai practice, then we will call the points and sometimes explain to the players why something was or was not a point.

During actual shiai as I said before, you shut up and accept whatever the shimpan give you. Doesn't mean there isn't some locker-room grumbling but on the court, no way. Unless you're the Koreans at Worlds last year but that's another kettle of fish.

At a naginata shinpan (referee) seminar in March, the topic of taejo (disqualification) came up. The only example anyone could think of was an incident in a Japanese tournament in the 1990s, where a competitor threw down her weapon in disgust.

Not only was she disqualified, but her entire regional federation was banned from that competition for the next ten years. There hasn't been another incident since.
