Hiroo Onoda, WWII Legend, dies at 91
One of the last century's most hardcore warriors has passed. A true martial artist.
You are absolutely forbidden to die by your own hand. It may take three years, it may take five, but whatever happens, we'll come back for you. Until then, so long as you have one soldier, you are to continue to lead him. You may have to live on coconuts. If that's the case, live on coconuts! Under no circumstances are you to give up your life voluntarily.
His epic story is told here: http://www.badassoftheweek.com/onoda.html
He may have fought for an enemy of the United States and may even have been the most stubborn, deluded asses to ever wear a soldier's uniform, but fighting on and evading his enemies for more than 30 years in the jungle is a feat few in this age could dream of surviving, and worthy of respect from all who would dare call themselves "warriors".
Hiroo Onoda, center, salutes after handing over his military sword on Lubang Island in the Philippines in March 1974. Onoda, a former intelligence officer in the Japanese army, had remained on the island for nearly 30 years, refusing to believe his country had surrendered in World War II. He died at a Tokyo hospital on Thursday, January 16. He was 91.
You served your country and then some, Hiroo. It's time for some serious R&R and to party with all those Bunnies in the sky.

I have his book. What a badass, indeed.
