If not the resemblance is strong. Hmm, maybe not, though.

I thought I recognized the silver medalist as being from BC.

Yeah, it may have well been her handing out the medals. Isn't she French or something?

I believe she is Algerian, which means the majority of her judo training would have been French.

Several of my students have been to training camps where she was either running the show or one of the coaches. Let's just say she is a very serious judoka...I've met her as well. Intense comes to mind.

Hey, we made it here. And it's not -40 degrees, either !

Long day of competition. NeilG and I met. He's a pretty good ref, LOL ! Traded a few old fart-back-in-the day stories as well.

My one student got a bronze, fighting up 6 kilos. He landed one super sweet IpponSeoi to Osoto Gari/Otoshi combo in the process, and showed that he has absorbed quite a bit of his training to perform under pressure, so all is good.

Ewan Beaton got put into the Canadian Judo Hall of Fame as well. Got to sit near to him while he coached from the chair, which was a learning experience for me for sure.

Got a couple of decent videos on my phone I'll try to share later as well.

Nice to meet you today, Ben. Hope your trip to our little tournament was worth it. Thanks for the kind words on my reffing, it's a work in progress for sure. Still only provincial B.

I was surprised they allowed you to wear the geisha outfit, but, Canada is a very tolerant and diverse nation to say the least. They did draw the line at the geta on the tatami, though.

Heck, I just found out that as of January 1st, prostitution is now legal in Canada, and apparently unregulated until some sort of legislation can be put together. I expect your unemployment numbers will go waaaay down quickly (no pun intended).

The trip was well worth the time. One other young woman from the Kootaneys ended up with a bronze medal as well, which I forgot to mention in my earlier post.

Keep up the work on the reffing, we can use more and better refs for sure.

Prostitution has been legal in Canada for a long time, not sure if it was ever illegal. What was recently made legal was "living off the avails of prostitution", running a "bawdy house" and soliciting. So basically we've now allowed pimps, whorehouses and advertising. The pimps thing is a side-effect - what the hookers want is the ability to pay a bodyguard, hire an accountant, do business-type stuff with the money.

None of this goes into effect for another year, the judge gave the government some time to draft new laws if it wants to.

It's interesting, I read it in the newspaper. In any case, several Canadians I asked apparently had no idea it was already "legal" (wink, wink).

Thanks for the clarification. Not only do you look good in a suit, you are well informed.
