HOW DO ARMBAR?!: Bujinkan Self Defense - The Untrained

How Do Armbar?!: Bujinkan Self Defense - The Untrained

I stumbled about a “discussion” regarding the Bujinkan Ninja discussing how their Ninja LaRPing would hold up against an untrained opponent. The result was pretty hilarious. It almost hurts to see them being taken advantage by a elderly Japanese Man that thinks they are stupid enough fund his retirement.

Yes, you read those correctly. SandNinjer has always wondered what’s it like not to LaRP a strike, For those not familiar with Japanese terms, Shuto is a “Sword Hand” aka a Chop, Traditionally applied to the base of the neck or temple in order to setup a lock or throw. This is when TomD responds that his instructor once hit him lightly and his legs “gave out.” Sandninjer responds that he been told he could kill someone this way. Yes, Bujinkan Ninja are so deadly that can kill people with a single blow and therefore cannot be practiced. Thank god this technique is outlawed in all competitive striking …………Oh wait no it isn’t.

The conversation moves to Oya Goroshi (Thumb Lock). Apparently Ninja technique involve finding the smallest joint on the body and attempting to control the entire body through it. As described by Kagete, mall security guard.
The other Ninja, don’t argue that “Attacking the thumb” may not be the most practical avenue, no they argue that is too harsh…

Wow. They really believe they possess the teh true deadly skillz.

Is this something that is prevalent amongst all Bujinkan schools? Do any of them incorporate any kind of alive training or sparring?

That would ruin the magic and mystique of Hatsumi and the booj. They would have a lot of trouble doing alive sparring with all of the dead bodies hitting the floor.

Out of curiosity I looked up "Omote Shuto"

You know, I know the uke is supposed to roll with the punches and take the fall but he starts falling before the hit and flies rather dramatically...

The Mark Twain and Aristotle quotes are wonderfully ironic.

I have a cousin so into this rubbish that he had something tattooed on his arm near his hand that attracts a lot of "attention". It's so HARD keeping my mouth shut sometimes.

I like it when he cross his feet over and places his entire weight on one foot while advancing.

And I don't know about anybody else, but if I knew a strike that was going to send me flying a couple metres and knock me flat was coming my way, there's no way I could just blithely stand there and wait for it.
