    Conversely, the fact that Motubu was able to throw Funakoshi with kote-gaeshi could be construed as evidence of Funakoshi's overwhelming mediocrity.

    Hmm...I had thought that because Funakoshi promoted Shotokan as a martial sport it led to Japanese kickboxing, but you're right -- it actually came from Kyokushin and MuyThai. I learn something new every day around here.
