Just part of the competition ruleset for La Boxe Française-Savate.
The impact on the knee joint when an inside cresent kick is blocked hard will hurt you enough that using that leg for kicking or as balancing leg would be impossible for the rest of the fight.
Now since it's mandatory that in competition it's 50% striking and 50% kicking you would be in a big disadvantage.
In the beginning it was legal, but some "baiting" accidents were responsible for the rule change.

    It's legal in Savate-Défense.

Coupled with the jazz hands block... no can defense.

I started doing krotty in 1995, but I have a suspicion that such conversations were much rarer before 1993.
Actually I feel the opposite was true. Prior to modern times(i.e. Bullshido) People made all kinds of erroneous claims BS claims.

see now i know after actually training in Martial Arts and Bullshido and being in the military. I know what to look for or ask etc. Special Forces huh, let's see your DD-214 etc,

I agree completely. There is a reason I no longer do ATA TKD (beyond their lack of throwing people on their heads).

That looked more like another weird kick called, among other things, a reverse roundhouse. It involves a hip pivot and knee snap instead of the longer sweeping motion of the outward crescent kick.

Yeah, you're right, but the impact would seem to be the same no?

We called it a twist kick.

I'd say the impact is more like a front snap kick than a crescent kick.
