The article is self-explanatory. I was always under the impression that you didn't ice to reduce swelling, but because the body tries to maintain homeostasis and when you remove the ice the body overcompensates and floods the area with blood which has multiple benefits.
I'm hoping someone more educated than I can shed some light on whether or not I should be icing my injuries. Thank you.

I must count myself among the many who never even questioned the usefulness of ice. Everything this guy says makes sense to me, though.

I was taught to only ice an injury for 15mins to prevent the homeostatic reponse
Alternating cold and heat for 15mins each was also advised
