    Lee Enfield Rapid Fire

I had heard from a buddy of mine (ex military) about how fast the Lee-Enfield MK 4 could be fired. Just looked it up.

I think we can all agree this is pretty cool !

I fell in love with double set triggers while shooting muzzleloaders. For offhand competition a set trigger of some sort was a must-have item. For hunting the back trigger could be adjusted on some models, my rifles weren't so fancy and required trigger work to get them down to something acceptable. Of course, you could also set the front trigger for a couple of pounds, but that's kinda dangerous.

My Ruger 1A (see picture of my son and the deer in this thread) had a Canjar single set trigger on it at one point. Push it forward to set. But I had to send the rifle to Ruger a few years ago to replace a part that only Ruger makes and has to be hand fitted. They wouldn't work on the rifle unless I allowed them to reinstall a factory trigger.

Anyway, I now have a Canjar single set trigger for a Ruger #1 in a small ziploc bag...

But they did replace the rear sight for me, LOL !

I took my boys' best friend, their neighbor out last Friday for a second chance at his first deer. We had gone the week before with no luck, although we did see a couple of deer.

It was myself, my two boys (age 8 and 10), and their friend, who is 14. The boy's Dad doesn't really hunt, but does shoot, so with his blessing we took his son hunting. He and my older boy got their hunter safety cards in the same class (to which we drove 30 miles one way for 6 days in a row to attend).

In any case, he ended up getting a very nice doe with a tough quartering away and steeply down hill shot at about 70 yards muzzle to deer (not horizontal). Put the bullet between the last two ribs, destroyed one lung and half the liver and assorted blood vessels in between. She staggered a few yards and fell over dead.

No TV hunting show displays were to be seen. Just congrats on a great shot.

I just took pics on my old cell phone, so none to share at this time. My youngest boy spotted the doe below us, which was cool as hell. He must have 20/10 vision, LOL.

Nothing fancy equipment wise, just a Rossi .242 Winchester single shot (one of the ones made for kids that converts to a 20 ga. shotgun), Remington 80 gr. Core-Locs, and a 4x fixed Bushnell scope. I have to admit that Rossi has an excellent trigger, which surprised me. Better than the one on my Handi-Rifle, LOL ! Shot nice groups as well. Next year we will get him some 100 gr bullets, though.

The boys gutted it with my help, then dragged it by themselves all the way to the road, fortunately downhill and only about 200 yards away, but through/down a very tangled recently logged clear cut. Next day the all helped cut it up and package the meat. At the heart and liver too (they were marginally more well mannered than starving Orcs, LOL ! ).

So that was a wonderful ending to the 2013 deer (rifle season) season for us all.

I kept getting something in my eyes the whole time, must been the Larch needles falling...
